That's also the reason why I keep reading this, even if it means having to deal with hard-to-read parts like Souichi, And people who read this already know, that these stories aren't even that "scary", but more of a shock factor or just an obvious twist which is repeated over and over in this collection.īefore jumping into the main point, let me clarify that I really admire how unique and creative Junji is in making these manga.

I've read all of Junji Itou collection, and for those who don't know: this is one part of the whole compilation of short horror stories from the author.

But can he stop this enigmatic figure, or do only torment and misery await those who try? With tragic results spreading as a consequence, Ryuusuke determines to prevent this man from repeating the past. What is more, his advice has bewitching effects on those he encounters. This devilishly handsome but wicked presence gives nothing but cruel and harsh advice to anyone who has the misfortune of crossing his path. With Ryuusuke's arrival, however, a new figure emerges in this game: the Intersections Pretty Boy.

As a result, these memories hinder Ryuusuke's return to the town, as well as his reunion with his childhood friend Midori Shibayama. Though fun and exciting for most, this game holds nothing but dark memories for Ryuusuke, for when he was a child, his involvement had disastrous results for the other player. Thanks to the unique weather, one game has become commonplace among the residents: intersection fortune-telling, where strangers meet up at crossroads to ask for anonymous advice. The boy could be a reflection of our main character, or he could be a result of the foggy town, or he could be a representation of, well, lovesickness, that moment where you have such a single-minded view of love that you lose all sense of reason, only, in this case, it leads to bizarrely horrific consequences.EditSynopsis High school student Ryuusuke Fukada returns to the place he grew up: Nazumi, a town drenched in thick fog. I have my suspicions, of course, especially when you learn more about Ryusuke’s backstory, but it’s left ambiguous. I absolutely LOVE that we never get a definitive answer on where the boy came from, in fact, we don’t get definitive answers on where any of the horrors in this anthology come from. It’s not as simple as the boy telling people to kill themselves (though that DOES happen), in some cases he’s telling people they aren’t worth his time, or to worry about bigger problems, things that get twisted up in horrific ways. While Lovesickness is, primarily, in Rysuke’s POV, we get to see how the beautiful boy’s words have affected people in different ways and how everything links back to the same source. What I like about this manga is how it tells these stories, especially the main one.
